A specialist legal in-house role has arisen in the Commercial Law Group of the Legal Services Department which comprises a broader team of in-house lawyers. The Commercial Law Group is responsible for drafting, developing and settling complex commercial documentation and provides concise, written and verbal advice on a range of commercial and contract matters, including associated policies. As a Supervising Lawyer and part of a team, you will be required to work autonomously, have initiative to propose practical solutions to internal staff and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. You will be required to have strong contract and negotiation skills to advise internally and be able to represent Victoria Police's interests to a variety of external stakeholders, including Government agencies and private enterprise. Your duties will include: Drafting numerous types of Contracts, MOUs, Deeds and other forms of agreement involving legal input (including Purchase Order Contracts, Change Requests, Assignments, Abatements, Service Levels, Releases, Indemnities, Sponsorships, Joint Ventures, Hire Agreements, Letters of Intent, Consultancies, Licences, Grants, Letters of Understanding/Agreement/Exchange and Protocols). Reviewing, advise on and settling Intellectual Property and Information Technology contracts. Providing legal advice on all Victoria Police procurements, including Expressions of Interest, Requests for Quote and Tenders. Providing written and verbal advice on contract creation and departures. Approving, instructing, monitoring and overseeing engagements through the Victorian Government Legal Services Panel including the VGSO and other panel lawyers on various matters where independence is required. Drafting and settling consent/participant forms, disclaimers, terms of reference and all forms of contract clauses. Advising on contract disputes and their settlement. Reviewing and settle all written engagements with external parties. Advising on legal risk and compliance issues. Assisting Victoria Police staff to negotiate legal aspects of contracts. Engaging with tenderers' commercial and legal advisors, where necessary, to protect Victoria Police's interests; and Providing advice on associated Victoria Police policies and guidelines. As the successful applicant, you will have: Admitted to practice as an Australian Lawyer and possess a current unrestricted practising certificate. Significant Commercial Law experience. Proven ability to provide authoritative legal advice, illustrating professional leadership on complex matters. Strong negotiation skills, including skills to resolve contract disputes. Strong knowledge of contract law. Experience in providing advice to, and influencing, senior clients/ stakeholders. Highly developed conceptual, analytical, interpersonal and written communication skills. Experience in building strong working relationships with internal and external clients/ stakeholders, particularly at a senior level. Ability to work with limited direction, be proactive and deal with uncertainty Strong organisational and time management skills; and Resilience and the ability to deal with continuous work, strict deadlines and multiple competing priorities. Requirements and relevant information: The salary range for a VPS5 role is $106,534 to $128,897 (covering salary ranges VPSG5.1 and VPSG5.2). Although it is standard practice for selected candidates to commence at the base of the salary range, genuine consideration will be given to a commencement salary within the available range that is commensurate with the successful candidate's knowledge, skills and experiences. This will be subject to negotiations with the Hiring Manager in the course of the selection process and may include the provision of evidence of a higher income and/or supporting documentation (as required). This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands. This position requires shift work as indicated in the Position Description (as attached to the advertisement).
