Accountant


The role

The Financial Accountant will contribute to the leadership and direction of the finance function of Transdev’s 100% owned subsidiaries in NSW & QLD through ensuring effective internal financial controls, financial and reporting systems and financial analysis facilitating the delivery of a highly efficient and cost-effective bus business.

The Finance function establishes and maintains the financial and payroll management systems, procedures and processes to ensure they are operating effectively. It coordinates and provides strategic financial advice in the preparation of budget and business plans that will maximise value for money and meet business objectives. The function also works with Transdev Australasia for the management of internal and outsourced IT services that deliver end-user requirements and value for money. The Finance function will also play a support role in cultivating and promoting efficiency, labour productivity and a willingness to embrace change while being sensitive to the issues that may result. 

1. Financial Control: 

  • Under the direction of the Head of Finance implement, maintain and support a range of contemporary financial policies, systems and practices, manage balance sheet projections, maintenance of the Chart of Accounts, cash and debt management, asset and inventory accounting, financial, statement preparation and statutory returns.
  •  Ensure completion of monthly reconciliations of all Balance Sheet accounts (including bank and credit card reconciliation), and any critical P&L accounts and resolve any discrepancies

2. Asset Management: 

  • Maintaining the fixed asset register, reconcile with General Ledger and conduct regular reviews of the integrity of data in the register
  • Reviewing, in conjunction with business units and Commercial department, asset utilisation to identify items with potential for redeployment, sale or disposal

3. Accounts: 

  • Ensuring that creditors and debtors are managed effectively and efficiently to support the business objectives.
  • Maintaining the Accounts in accordance with statutory reporting obligations and Shareholders’ requirements

4. Budget Controls:

  • Monitoring performance against targets specified in the FA, Business Plan, Budget and Long-Term Plan.
  • Managing cash flow and financial performance measurement and reporting for shareholders.

5. Reporting:

  • Assist with delivering statutory reporting requirements, monthly management reporting and any other financial reporting
  • Help to ensuring that statutory and compliance reporting are achieved e.g. BAS, FBT

6. Governance:

  • Preparing Statutory Accounts in accordance with professional accounting principles, statutory reporting obligations and Transdev requirements
  •  Undertake the tax accounting functions including Income tax, accounting for the GST and preparation of BAS statements and preparation of FBT

7, Leadership:

  • Providing leadership, management skills and personal qualities and business acumen that inspires Transdev staff to think and act safe and in a manner that supports the delivery of an excellent customer experience
  •  Contributing to the business strategy by helping the leadership team to understand the financial implications of decisions. Providing support to each function with the development of budgets and analysis of actual financial performance and display leadership, teamwork and strategic planning ability as a member of the senior management team

Ideally you might have

  • Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Business Management, Economics, Commerce or an equivalent discipline
  • Sound and up to date knowledge of fixed asset and inventory accounting systems and requirements
  •  Extensive financial accounting management experience in a private sector organisation, preferably in the transport or customer service industries
  • Proven ability to deal with work peaks and pressures as they occur and understanding that they often cannot be planned for but need to be resolved.
  • Extensive background and understanding of financial support particularly with computer-based management reporting systems
  • Comprehensive understanding of financial management, including budget and reporting of financial performance in cashflow management processes
  •  Comprehensive knowledge of relevant State and Federal legislation and regulation
