About the Role
The Infectious Diseases Unit is a 24 bed ward comprising of 10 single rooms, 4 negative pressure isolation rooms, 2 x 4 bed rooms and 1x 2 bed room. The patients that are managed in the Infectious Diseases Unit include patients requiring specific additional precautions due to multi-resistant organisms, and patients requiring specialist medical and nursing care by the Infectious Diseases team. These specialties include, general infectious diseases, including HIV, haematology, oncology, general medical eg cardiology, endocrine and specialist surgical patients eg Plastics, ENT, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, vascular and general surgical.

* Demonstrates leadership and assists in managing the performance appraisal and development of clinical staff, monitoring their clinical capability and act in the role of preceptor and mentor. Supervise Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Assistants in Nursing, Nursing Undergraduates, visiting nurses and other delegated nursing staff within the designated unit.
* Actively identifying areas for improvement; initiate monitoring and assess progress with the goal of achieving high quality patient outcomes and improving service delivery across the continuum of care.
* Supports the NUM and senior nurses; demonstrates a strong team commitment through open, effective communication and active participation in the development and achievement of unit goals.
* Work collaboratively with patients, their families and the broader healthcare team to achieve desired outcomes by utilising best nursing practice and innovation.
