Assistant Director General Strategy & Partnerships

The Department of Communities is Western Australia’s major human services department delivering disability services, child protection and family support, housing, and community and regional initiatives.

Led by a progressive, committed and inspiring Director General, the Department ultimately shapes the human services system and is dedicated to delivering outcomes for the benefit of all Western Australians.

The Opportunity

The Assistant Director General Strategy & Partnerships is accountable for leading the development of high-level, whole-of-Department strategies, policies and frameworks that support delivery of the Department’s aspired outcomes as they relate to child safety, people with disabilities, and housing. The role oversees and manages key partnership and strategic relationships that are fundamental in achieving these outcomes.

In an environment of wholesale reform, the position will enable and support the delivery of government priorities, ensuring statutory obligations are met and achieve the desired outcomes, particularly for the most vulnerable members of the community. You will facilitate the strategic management of partnerships with key public sector agencies, not-for-profit organisations, academic institutions and the private sector, building positive relationships to influence change. Importantly, your authenticity, agility and adaptability in managing complexity, is a key requirement. Effective management of internal and external communications and media management is a further key element of this role.

Your genuine commitment to high integrity, accountability, effective governance and transparency is critical in this role. This is supported by your empathy for the Department’s purpose, understanding and responsiveness to issues facing Aboriginal people and your ability to lead and engage in a culturally appropriate way.

Your Experience

  • Demonstrated Senior Executive public sector experience with a track record of leading and driving change in a complex Community Services environment,
  • Demonstrated skill in analysing systemic issues and multiple viewpoints to develop long term strategies and solutions that successfully deliver the desired outcomes
  • Demonstrated history of engaging and developing trust-based relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders (organisational, government, community and beyond).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach and build high performing teams in a fast-paced, ambiguous, challenging, and complex environment.

Consistent with WA Government senior executive recruiting approaches, this is a fixed term 5-year position with an attractive remuneration package.

How to Apply
