In the role of Cadet Technical Officer (ITS) you will be involved in installing and maintaining Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), data cabling and other associated work in accordance with departmental Standards.
Cadet Technical Officers (ITS) are provided training and experience in the construction of road transport infrastructure projects, considering quality, traffic, environmental issues, safety, engineering standards, budget constraints and construction economy.
Assist in the delivery of ITS works in accordance with departmental standards, specifications, policies and procedures.
Assist in the integration of new and emerging intelligent transport systems technologies and approaches used in road network operations and safety.
Learn how to deliver works using project management principles while monitoring and reporting to the project supervisor on the status of these works.
Undertake or assist in various research and planning activities around installation and maintenance practices and performance for new devices and technologies.
Learn the process for the procurement of materials, engagement of labour, plant and equipment that satisfy the demands necessary for the efficient delivering of projects.
Assist in achieving project goals by working within a team.
Assist with the development and improvement of systems and processes.
Identify, analyse and provide creative solutions to problems and issues.
Liaise and communicate effectively with stakeholders, customers, management and staff.
Attainment of restricted Electrical licence once suitable progression through Diploma has been achieved.
Commitment to Transport and Main Roads’ Workplace Health & Safety Policy.
Attend all required classes (including lectures, tutorials and practicals) and pass and successfully complete all examinations and assessments required to obtain your qualification, as described under ‘mandatory requirements’.
Studying or eligible for enrolment in an Diploma in Electronic Communications Engineering, or equivalent qualification, from a recognised tertiary institution.
Valid Queensland ‘C’ class driver’s licence or equivalent.
Positions are available in Cairns, Mackay, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast and Brisbane.
The recommended applicant/s will be required to undergo a pre-employment medical as part of the selection process for this role.
