The Tasmanian Health Service is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Career Medical Officer vacancy in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Royal Hobart Hospital.

The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania, and the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania School of Medicine. The Hospital provides most specialist medical services for the region or state.

$121,678 to $149,616 per annum


Career Medical Officer Level 10 to Level 13 in accordance with the Salaried Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2017

Period of Employment

Permanent full-time day work, working 76 hours per fortnight.

The Career Medical Officer:

  • Is responsible for the day to day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the allocated site/facility. 
  • Provides after-hours emergency cover at the allocated site/facility as determined by the Head of Department.
  • General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty
2. Identification check
3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check
