The Prince of Wales Hospital Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) is seeking to recruit up to 0.8 FTE Staff Specialists in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry to work across the CAMH Services in the Eastern Suburbs, including the Adolescent Service, Child and Family East team and providing support to the psychiatry services on site in the assessment and management of young people presenting in crisis.

This Adolescent Service is a multi-disciplinary community team located on the grounds of the Prince of Wales Hospital providing assessment and treatment to young people of High School age and their families with moderate to severe mental health problems. CAFÉ treats young people and their families aged 0-12 with moderate to severe mental health issues. Both services use a multidisciplinary approach.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed psychiatrist who is looking for an opportunity to work collaboratively with a skilled team to provide the best possible care to their clients.

The successful appointee will;

  • provide assessment and ongoing care for community clients as part of the multi-disciplinary team
  • liaise with acute patient mental health teams regarding admitted adolescent clients
  • participate on an after-hours roster to provide advice to assessing clinicians regarding children and adolescents presenting to facilities within the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD)
  • New ideas, initiatives and treatment approaches are supported and encouraged.

    There are opportunities to partner colleagues with a range of expertise and experience in adolescent mental health. Participation in undergraduate and post graduate teaching, research, supervision and professional development are highly valued.

    A conjoint university appointment may be possible depending on contribution to teaching and research.

    Selection Criteria

  • Registration or eligible for registration with Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA). Candidate to provide AHPRA Registration Number on application.
  • Fellowship of the The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for by the Health Insurance Act 1973 and the relevant Award/Determination, and demonstrated subspecialty training in Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist.
  • Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
  • Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality service in the specialty, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital.
  • Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriate as a senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites. Demonstrated commitment to provision of a high standard of clinical care in the public sector setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in and commitment to research relevant to the role and needs of the Department.
