  • The NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC) is the lead central agency inthe NSW Government. We support the Premier and the Special Minister of State,the Cabinet, Ministers and agencies by coordinating policies and servicesacross government. We lead policy development, provide innovative ideas andsupport Government plans and projects.

    About the Role

    The Executive Director, Employee Relations , directs and leads the NSW Government’sstrategic employee and industrial relations framework across both the privateand public sectors to optimise alignment with the Government’s strategicpriorities, enabling and supporting effective employee and industrial relationsmanagement and delivering effective services to internal and externalstakeholders.

    You will be responsible for:

  • Providing strategic, evidence-based advice andrecommendations to: the Secretary; Deputy Secretary; Cluster Secretaries; and,the Public Sector Commissioner across the whole-of-government of NSW on industrialrelations policy, operational matters and the NSW legislative and regulatoryframework
  • Driving the design and delivery of the employee andindustrial relations strategy and framework, policies and approaches, inaccordance with sector-wide strategic and tactical imperatives, NSW Governmentpriorities, directions, legislation and policies, identifying short, medium andlong-term policy and service delivery priorities
  • Providing strategic policy and advice to the Government onboth private and public sector industrial relations issues and activelyparticipating as a partner in the Commonwealth National Workplace RelationsFramework, including developing the NSW Government’s position on mattersfalling within the Commonwealth jurisdiction
  • Providing strategic and tactical advice to direct policyproposals and initiatives through stakeholder consultation and parliamentaryprocesses and act as an advocate for NSW in the federal system
  • Contributing to strategic planning processes to ensurepeople strategies and key decisions are informed by high quality governance,compliance and risk management advice regarding industrial and employeerelations issues
  • To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Extensive leadership and management skills and experience,including strategic and change management skills and experience
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in industrial/employeerelations management, and a sound understanding of relevant industriallegislation, institutions and NSW Government industrial relations policy
  • Extensive experience in negotiating industrial awards andrelated instruments, knowledge and understanding of public sector financialmanagement including relevant polices and governing legislation.
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications or demonstratedrelevant, equivalent professional experience.
