Job Description

The primary responsibility of the Executive Director is to provide strategic leadership in the achievement of the Rottnest Island Authority’s objectives in accordance with the Rottnest Island Authority Act 1987. The Executive Director reports to the Board, Chief Executive Officer and the Minister, as appropriate.

The Executive Director:

  • Leads the development of a tourist destination which provides a positive visitor experience and an enjoyable, affordable holiday.
  • Leads the conservation of the Island’s natural flora, fauna and marine environment by leading the development of public awareness and eco-management strategies in this area.
  • Is responsible for preserving and enhancing the Island’s significant built unique heritage and pedestrian and cyclist first environment.
  • Manages the available funding with competing priorities and demands through the application of sound commercial business management principles and a strategic business approach.
  • Selection Criteria

    1. Shapes and manages strategy.

  • Demonstrated ability to inspire a sense of purpose and direction, ensuring the Authority focuses strategically.
  • Substantial experience in using effective judgement to weigh up options and develop realistic solutions and in providing expert advice.
  • Ability to identify strategic issues and to implement changes which are key to the success of Rottnest Island.
  • 2. Achieves results.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver intended results through a range of ways, including building skill and responsiveness and marketing.
  • Demonstrated experience in steering and implementing change.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing financial and physical resources in a constrained environment, including experience in leading a team of people to generate support for the Authority through revenue raising.
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen in a diverse business environment.
