Insider Guides publishes free student guides for international and regional students, supplied upon arrival into a new city. These guides help students with all aspects of their study experience, from socialising, exploring their new city, and working, to accommodation, banking, and making the most of university. The guides use the knowledge of locals to make newly arrived students feel welcome and at ease in their new home.

In 2021, we’ll publish guides for seven Australian locations: Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney, and the Gold Coast.

Additionally, we produce regular online content that is shared with students and institutions in our weekly EDM. Our online presence is growing significantly, and we’re expanding into new areas of online content creation.

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced sub-editor to help us out with our online content on a freelance basis. You’ll be responsible for:

  • Making sure the content reads well, has been written to brief, and fits our style guide
  • Fact-checking articles
  • Looking for grammatical and spelling errors
  • Writing headlines
  • Providing constructive feedback and notes if an article needs to go back to a writer
  • We usually work on one to five online articles per week, but this can vary depending on our workload. Word length is mostly around 800-1000 words and they can range from straightforward listicles on where to shop in a particular city, to in-depth explanations of tricky concepts. Articles are generally provided on an ad-hoc basis and require a 3-4 day turnaround (although we’re flexible if you’ve got other commitments!).

This is a remote role, so you can work from anywhere in Australia.
