This is a permanent part-time (0.25FTE) position commencing Term 4, 2020.

Watheroo Primary School (PS) is seeking a highly dedicated and enthusiastic Gardener – Handyperson to join their team.

The Gardener – Handyperson will perform gardening duties, as well as grounds and facility maintenance to ensure a safe, clean and inviting school environment. They will maintain and present the school grounds and gardens in an attractive, clean and tidy condition for both soft and hard landscaping, including turf management, and provide a suitable growing environment for plants. The successful applicant will also perform minor repairs and maintenance as requested, as well as other Gardener – Handyperson duties in accordance with the Department’s policies and guidelines. Ideally, the successful applicant has good communication and interpersonal skills and works well with others. 

Watheroo PS has a close knit school community who endeavour to provide the best possible environment for our students to learn in. We are located 40km north of Moora and 220kms north of Perth in the Central West agricultural area. The school is located in the heart of the town site and plays an important role in maintaining social connections for students, their families, staff and the wider community.

    Eligibility and training requirements

    Employees will be required to:

  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • Complete introductory School Gardener training within 3 months of commencement in metropolitan areas or as soon as practicable for regional areas;
  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy;
  • Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
  • The Department applies a ten (4) day breach period to this selection process.
