About the role

The Head of Corporate Development can be located in Sydney or Canberra and has accountability for leading the development of strong key customer relationships and for the pro-active identification of and preliminary positioning for business opportunities as well as the successful implementation of specific strategies that result in the growth of NSM’s service offering and client base. 

  • Develop a strong and effective network of personal relationships with existing and identified new customers, partners, suppliers and other relevant stakeholders that positively enhances NSM’s position in the Australian Department of Defence and Defence Industry
  • Develop and implement sound strategic and business plans for areas of responsibility;
  • Monitor and review sales performance in terms of revenue, margin, activity and effectiveness in respect to achievement of financial targets;
  • Ensure development of new business opportunities through proactive engagement with identified new and existing customers, conducting detailed market and industry research, and constant review of public tender information
  • Coordinate the development of effective marketing strategies, plans and campaigns;
  • Develop and maintain an agreed centralised system for capturing and communicating market intelligence;
  • Lead annual strategy and business planning cycle
  • L ead and model business fundamentals including, NSM values, strategy and objectives to ensure employees remain engaged and can embrace the business fundamentals whilst accomplishing their individual targets and objectives; 

About you

Extensive experience in a Corporate or Business Development role within the Government and/or Defence sector with a proven record of winning new business;

Holds or has the ability to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance

Preferably Degree qualified in a relevant discipline

In depth knowledge and awareness of the Australian defence industry generally and the maritime sector specifically and its changing nature

Experience in business development and marketing activities; with a sound understanding of sales and account management practices

Excellent negotiation and influencing skills

Demonstrated ability to work independently to organise and prioritise demands, handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, set and meet deadlines and follow-through within a fast-paced environment with multiple and competing demands

MUST be an Australian Citizen & either hold, or be eligible to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance

Current Motor Vehicle Driver’s Licence
