The Role 

Reporting to the Associate Director – Claims Operations, you will lead a team of 4 direct reports (and approximately 100 individual contributors) and will drive end to end control system design, productivity and genuine team engagement to maximise recovery opportunity and collections from third parties when A&G Customers not at fault and minimize settlement costs when A&G Customers are at fault.

You are likely to be a CA or CPA qualified and have operated in senior finance roles. You are motivated by creating an environment where your team can fulfill their potential and strive for excellence. You thrive in challenging the status quo and pushing for high performance. You probably have a background in insurance or financial services. Experience in third party recoveries and settlements would be advantageous.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develops and delivers 12 month business plans that are integral to C&A Divisional and A&G organization strategy;
  • Sets objectives, manages and delivers work that has major impact on C&A and A&G business results;
  • Identify and manage underperformance, issues and errors that have impact beyond six to 12 months;
  • Leadership of large (> 100 FTE) operational team;
  • Accountable for achievement of annual claims cost plan, operating expense plan and broader balanced scorecard for functions.
  • Design and deliver annual program of operational excellence across all areas of functional accountability;
  • Building a team and creating a culture that continues to deliver high performance with high integrity;
  • Provide effective leadership that balances delivery across all dimensions of optimal claims cost outcomes, engaged workforce, customer service and strong control environment.
  • Knowledge and Experience

    This role is ideal for someone that has achieved domain mastery as a senior operational leader, is self motivated and driven by high performance with high integrity. The successful candidates will have the ability to articulate both a strategic direction and deliver the roadmap to achieving longer term objectives whilst engaging and motivating large teams to deliver strong operational results. High levels of commercial acumen, experience leading large business changes and systems thinking are all critical capabilities for success in this role.

  • Relevant qualification in Business, Commerce, or a similar discipline;
  • CA/CPA qualified (preferred);
  • 5+ years’ senior leadership experience within financial services industry, preferably insurance;
  • Extensive experience in leading operational teams efficiently and effectively in the provision of services to clients in line with service standards;
  • Self-motivated with an ability to work autonomously to manage competing priorities;
  • Ability to build and sustain effective relationships both internally and externally; 
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; and
  • Strong negotiation and influencing ability.
