The Australasian Kidney Trials Network (AKTN)

The Australasian Kidney Trials Network (AKTN) is a unit of the Faculty of Medicine’s Centre for Health Services Research at the University of Queensland, and is located at the Princess Alexandra Hospital campus, Woolloongabba. The AKTN was established in 2004 to deliver high quality clinical trials to improve the health and wellbeing of people with kidney disease. This collaborative research group engages the kidney care community to design, conduct and support clinical trials focussed on improving appropriate patient-centred outcomes. The main functions facilitated by the AKTN are:

  • The development of protocols for kidney disease clinical trials
  • Coordinating multi-centre clinical trials in Australia and New Zealand
  • Providing a comprehensive data management and statistical support service for clinical trials
  • Fostering collaborations within the kidney care community, both internationally and locally, including with patients and carers
  • Providing educational opportunities for kidney researchers including consumer partners, early and mid career researchers, recruiting site staff and research administration professionals
  • Establishing links with similar investigator-led networks in Australia, and internationally, to improve research outcomes.

About This Opportunity

Reporting to the Chair of the AKTN, this is an excellent opportunity to manage a small team and oversee the data collection and storage activities of a clinical trials network. The Lead Data Manager provides leadership and expertise in clinical data management technologies and practices and defines the long-term vision of the AKTN’s clinical data management team. The position is responsible for ensuring the collection, storage and timely availability of high quality clinical trial data that meet project needs and regulatory and quality standards.

Our Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a candidate with well-developed leadership and management skills, extensive experience building web-based electronic data-capture systems and proficiency in programming languages for processing and manipulating data. You will have a postgraduate degree in a scientific discipline, information technology or other relevant field with comprehensive knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Clinical Data Management Practices (GCDMP) and national and international information privacy and data protection laws and regulations. You will enjoy solving problems and working collaboratively within multi-disciplinary research teams.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position for 12 months at HEW level 8. The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $98,298 – $110,376 plus super of 17%.
