An exciting opportunity exists for a suitably qualified and experienced Manager Mechanical Engineering (Operations) to provide leadership of the Mechanical engineering team within the Major Outage Strategy team. 

Reporting to the Outage Strategy Manager, you will also be responsible for the management of mechanical design, quality requirements and technical support processes to ensure project outcomes are met and the assets meet the long-term reliability and availability requirements for the business.

Key accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Setting context, purpose and role clarity for team members and leading the team in achieving goals pertaining to long term asset safety, reliability and availability

  • Establishing and maintaining a constructive culture in the team using appropriate leadership behaviors, techniques and systems

  • Maintaining the appropriate number of people within the team with the appropriate skills to meet the project objectives

  • Providing expertise and guidance to the teams in the performance of discrete tasks

  • Providing technical support to the Project Managers and Outage/Site Managers

  • Specifically identifying and anticipating project related business risks and ensuring that appropriate controls are implemented and maintained through the life of the project

  • Identifying and improving inefficient work processes to increase the productivity of the team or wider business processes

  • Delivering accurate and timely reporting on the teams productivity and issues arising in a proactive and timely manner and providing control strategies where required

  • In addition to the above our ideal applicant will be able to demonstrate: 

  • Degree qualifications in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering

  • Extensive experience [minimum 10 years] in managing large scale, complex, high risk, varying and/or multiple large mechanical plant replacement or refurbishment projects

  • Highly developed influencing and negotiation skills

  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, and relationship building capability

  • Ability to develop, read and understand work scopes, technical specifications and drawings

  • Sound knowledge of Quality, WHS, EEO and Environmental policies, procedures and standards
