About the Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Midwife to join our supportive, multidisciplinary team at the Broken Hill Hospital. This would be a great opportunity for a New Graduate Midwife to join our team, develop their skills across the spectrum of maternity care and secure a position into 2021!

In the role, you will plan and deliver quality clinical care in a caseload Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) model for an annual caseload of 25-35 women, during the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal period. The caseload will be dependent on the experience of the midwife.

You will work flexible hours as part of an on-call roster. Our on-call is structured Monday 8am – Friday 5pm for your own caseload and will share a rotating weekend on-call roster with the rest of the Team.

The MGP Team works closely with a small team of Core Midwives on the Maternity Ward, in collaboration with a consultant obstetrician and are a close-knit, supportive team inclusive of BMids, new graduate midwives and students.

On average we have 4 babies born per week! We have a great Level 3 rural maternity unit / Level 2 special care nursery and are extremely proud to provide all pregnant women in the Far West access to their own midwife through a midwifery-led continuity of care program.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Current midwifery registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Demonstrated application of professional and ethical boundaries to the delivery of patient care with demonstrated capacity to interact with a multidisciplinary team in a personable and professional manner and personally resolve conflicts when they arise.
  • Demonstrated application of evidence based practice and critical thinking to advocate for and implement individualised person centred care patient care.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage autonomous caseload and flexible on-call hours within an on-call model of care.
  • Excellent competency and proficiency as a midwife in antenatal, labour, birth and postnatal care, lactation and infant feeding with an understanding of effective escalation and emergency Midwifery care.
  • Demonstrated commitment to work and partner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and families and employees to enhance health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
  • Evidence of participation in own professional development and commitment to maintaining competence and enhancement of skills, and willingness to apply and share professional expertise with colleagues.
  • Current license to drive in NSW.
