About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Network & Storage Lead the Network Engineer will be responsible for assisting in aspects of design, implementation and day to day management for the efficient operation, and continuous reliability of restricted and unrestricted Local Area Networks (LAN) as well as Wide Area Network (WAN) environments.

In terms of specific responsibilities, you will:

  • Participate in technical discussions on Network Design and architecture for sustainment and project activities.
  • Liaise within the team, between project teams, internal customers and stakeholders as required.
  • Develop and implement Network changes, including creating or updating engineering documentation, drawings and associated artefacts as required.
  • Comply with engineering processes and procedures imposed by the relevant management plans.
  • Participate in discussions on technical investigations, engineering plans, process improvements, Network guidelines and Network roadmaps.
  • Assist in the pro-active monitoring and maintenance of all existing network infrastructure, including the monitoring of Telco provided infrastructure to ensure compliance to Service Level Agreement’s
  • Be prepared and willing to provide flexible information systems support (including some out of hours support) and development service within a team environment.
  • Identify and address legacy and obsolete equipment and services as required.
  • Manage and participate in fault detection, performance monitoring, general systems management and timely resolution of systems issues. 
  • About you

    As an ideal applicant for this opportunity, you’ll have:

  • The ability to provide guidance on networking issues to colleagues, internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Confident oral and written communicator able to build effective relationships with business representatives, customers and suppliers.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships (across teams) and work with minimal supervision to resolve conflicts.
  • Demonstrated systems analysis, critical thinking and problem solving Skills.
  • Current up to date knowledge of network systems, network management systems, and application monitoring systems.
  • An understanding of TCP/IP and related protocols.
  • An understanding of networking equipment and associated peripherals, from vendors such as HP, IBM, Cisco, 3Com, Checkpoint.
  • An Information, Communication and Technology Degree (ICT), Engineering related degree or relevant vendor certifications.
  • A willingness to provide out of hours support as required coupled with a can do attitude.
  • A strong team focus and exceptional customer service ability.
  • A willingness to undertake other ICT tasks as directed by the Lead.
  • As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain appropriate clearance.
