Position Summary:

A vacancy exists in the above unit for a highly motivated Occupational Therapist with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team. Our progressive and innovative team offers development opportunities for our staff and a caring environment for the delivery of high quality patient centred care. The successful applicant(s) will be expected to be able to:

  • Provide and facilitate appropriate Occupational Therapy services in Palliative Care.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to the professions of Occupational Therapy, Diversional Therapy and Art Psychotherapy.
  • Evaluation of Occupational Therapy Services in Palliative Care including the collection of appropriate activity data and outcome information.
  • Planning and development of services within Palliative Care including working with the Occupational Therapy Manager and appropriate Palliative Care stakeholders in planning and development.
  • Coordination of Quality Improvement within Palliative Care Occupational Therapy.
  • Provide Occupational Therapy input to Palliative Care multi-disciplinary planning, quality and research activities as appropriate.
  • Management of the Palliative Care Occupational Therapy Equipment Lending Pool.
  • Provide specialist Palliative Care advice to other Occupational Therapy areas in the hospital.
  • Provide consultation regarding affairs relating to Palliative Care Occupational Therapy on a network level as required.

    Selection Criteria:

  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia
  • Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy and Current Australian Occupational Therapy Registration (AHPRA)
  • Extensive postgraduate Occupational Therapy clinical experience with significant involvement in one or more in the following areas: Palliative Care, Haematology/Oncology, Motor Neuron Diseases, Transplant or other life-limiting illness.
  • Extensive experience in provision of clinical supervision to Occupational Therapists, Diversional Therapists and other support staff and students.
  • Well developed communication and negotiation skills, including verbal, written and multidisciplinary liaison.
  • Experience in clinical management including service planning and conducting quality improvement projects.
  • Experience in teaching and consultation in related clinical areas.
  • Current unrestricted NSW Class C Driver’s License.
