Our client is a compact and diversified service provider for the Port of Christmas Island. The range of services provided by our client include, but are not necessarily limited to, the total logistics associated with the discharge and loading of all vessels calling at the Island; the provision of Ship agency services; the provision of mooring and un mooring services; assisting with the maintenance of the port buoyage system; the transfer of passengers from ship to shore and various ad hoc projects associated with the Port and Island infrastructure.

The role of the Operations Manager is to coordinate the functions of the Company, set and monitor Policy, manage the budget , co-ordinate routine maintenance , maintain related records and ensure compliance with Work Safe criteria and governing OHS regulations and procedures.

These responsibilities require the Manager to:

  • Plan and develop systems and procedures to improve the operating quality and efficiency of the company.
  • Communicate with clients to ensure their requirements are progressed with efficiency and within the agreed parameters of the governing contract of agreement.
  • Analyse and document processes and problems. Develop solutions to enhance efficiency
  • Direct staff in the development, analysis and preparation of reports.
  • Supervise staff in accordance with company policy and procedures.
  • Conduct interviews, hire new staff, and provide employee orientation.
  • Establish employee goals and conduct employee performance reviews.
  • Be responsible for staff scheduling related to and including work assignments, training, vacations, overtime, employee breaks and rotations.
  • Schedule and conduct regular staff meetings and reviews
  • Implement and ensure the maintenance of Industry related Occupational Health and Safety procedures.
  • Support and guide the OHS Committee and the elected Safety Representatives. A good understanding of Marine Orders and OHS compliances.
  • Provide a safe, efficient and friendly work environment. Work a flexible schedule.
  • Requirements:

  • Proven experience within the Port Logistics area (essential)
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Competent computer skills to meet the tasks required.
  • Be prepared to work varied hours, including week-ends.
  • Ability to work within and co-ordinate varied and simultaneous work areas.
  • Ability to motivate and lead a culturally diverse work force.
