About the program

AIR 6500 is the RAAF’s $3 billion program to develop a joint air battle management system that maximises the sensor capabilities offered by 5th Gen systems. AIR 6500 will create a fully networked ‘system of systems’ that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments, maximising situational awareness and enhancing the speed of decision making across the battlespace.

As part of this exciting program, we are pleased to invite applications for the newly created position of Project Manager to join our Bid team; you can be based in Canberra, ACT, Newcastle, NSW or Adelaide, SA.

We’re looking for a proactive, solutions orientated self-starter who enjoys the challenge of working on large, complex programs.

About the opportunity

You will support the Bid team and Senior Program Manager undertaking various project management duties, managing the schedule for AIR 6500 tasking activities and monitoring performance metrics.
 

Your responsibilities will include:

In terms of key responsibilities, you will:

  • Oversee progress on engineering tasks against program milestones
  • Assist to develop project artefacts including PMP, IMS, WBS and OBS to support bid phases
  • Develop the Proposal schedule in conjunction with Proposal Manager and Bid team
  • Manage Cost Account Management (CAM) tasks and report earned value metrics
  • Develop and manage the risks, issues and opportunities database
  • Assist with bids & proposal budgeting
  • Manage process to support ‘Make’ or ‘Buy’ decisions

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience in a similar role, particularly with bids, within the defence industry
  • A proven record in delivering complex projects/programs
  • Sound management skills within multi-discipline project teams
  • Highly developed communication skills, both oral and written
  • A thorough understanding of the interaction between technical, ILS and the Systems Engineering lifecycle
  • Experience with Open Plan Professional and/or Microsoft Project
  • Exposure to AS4360 (Risk Management) and ISO9001 (Quality Systems)
  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and project management certification

Interstate and international travel may be required when current restrictions are lifted.

Applicants are required to be Australian Citizens and hold a current or re-instatable NV1 Defence Security Clearance.
