What is Midwifery in Mount Isa like?

The Mount Isa Hospital Maternity Services hub is the referral centre for all pregnant women in the North West Hospital and Health Service region and for a small Northern Territory community; providing care to women and their families within its’ Antenatal service, Antenatal/Postnatal Inpatient Unit, Birthing Unit, Special Care Nursery and Home Visiting program. It consists of eight beds, with a three bed Birthing Suite and a three cot Special Care Nursery. The nursery has CPAP and ventilator capabilities, undertaking short term respiratory support for newborns, or stabilisation before transfer to a tertiary facility for ongoing management. The unit has approximately 500 births per year.

  • Requirements:

  • Proof of qualification, registration with AHPRA and a current practising certificate are mandatory requirements.
  • Possession of, or working toward, relevant post-graduate qualifications and/or minimum 2 years post-graduate clinical experience would be highly regarded.
  • The position may involve travel to various facilities or units within the North West Hospital and Health Service.
  • Class C motor vehicle licence.
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role.

    What’s on offer?

    Permanent full-time role, 76 hours per fortnight.

    Generous remuneration package value up to $115,307 p.a. comprising:

  • salary range between $72,471 to $92,954 p.a. (Nurse Grade 5)
  • annual recreational leave p.a. with 17.5% loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation.
