This role provides a culturally safe continuity of care for a caseload of women and their families through the newly developed Waijungbah Jarjums Midwifery Group Practice, primarily based in Southport.

The Waijungbah Jarjums Service is provided for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander families by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander midwives, Child Health nurses and health workers. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with identified midwives, Child Health nurse’s, health workers and social workers.

The Role

An opportunity has become available for several Registered Midwives Identified (Caseload) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 10 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

You will

  • Be responsible and accountable for role-modelling excellent family focused, evidence-based midwifery care at an advanced level within our newly established Waijungbah Jarjums Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) service for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander women and families
  • Available for ‘on-call’ to provide care as needed to the woman in their defined caseloads and to provide back-up to their partner midwives. Out of hours and weekends shared amongst the partnership
  • Take responsible for the provision of continuity of midwifery care and delegate activities to a defined group of women (caseload) within a framework of a social model of care that is woman centred
  • Utilise clinical skills to the full scope of practice in the areas of midwifery antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care

About you

To be successful in this position you will require:

  • To perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
  • A Bachelor of Midwifery or equivalent
  • Registration as a Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against – Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (Chicken Pox), Pertussis (Whooping Cough) and Hepatitis B
  • Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
  • Drivers Licence
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed

  • Base salary ranging from $74 281 – $95 278 per annum
