The Role

The role of the Rotational Resident Medical Officer is to provide first-line medical care to patients admitted to the Hospital. Responsibilities include patient assessment, investigation, treatment, referral/transfer and discharge of patients.
The RMO will have the opportunity to rotate through different departments within the hospital including Medicine, Surgery, Emergency Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

The Resident Medical Officer is clinically responsible for:

  • The initial assessment of the patient which should consist of a complete and documented comprehensive patient history, physical examination and the formulating of a management plan and ordering appropriate investigations.
  • Communicating with the patient about his/her condition and management, or with the immediate family of the patient is unconscious or otherwise unable to comprehend.
  • Communication of assessment with the senior medical staff and other members of the team providing care to the patient.
  • Accurately recording history and examination, management plan, investigations and action taken in the patient’s medical record including regular progress notes and arranging theatre and procedural lists as required.
  • Accurate and timely recording of drugs and treatment.

    Essential Criteria

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • PGY2 +
  • Current registration with AHPRA or eligible for registration under the competent pathway only (UK, Ireland, New Zealand, USA and Canada graduates).
