Security Officer

Downer Defence Systems is seeking to engage a full time Security Officer to manage our enterprise security requirements and ensure our compliance against the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP). Reporting to our Chief Security Officer, you will actively manage, monitor and report on the implementation of enterprise security initiatives including the administration and coordination of all security clearances. You will have a sound working knowledge of security requirements within the Defence and National Security industries and promote a “Security First” culture within the business.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the duties of a Security Officer as required under the DISP.
  • Develop, contribute and/or maintain enterprise security documentation, including plans, processes, procedures and internal security controls
  • Conduct regular enterprise security risk assessments and coordinate required mitigations and/or remediations
  • Manage and maintain the security clearance register and conduct day to day administration of all security clearance requests, change of circumstances etc
  • Coordinate the management of Export Control related artefacts and processes
  • Assist staff with their security related matters
  • Manage the facility security requirements of DDS offices
  • Coordinate, facilitate and/or conduct investigations into security incidents as directed by the CSO
  • Conduct regular security awareness training for staff and ensure staff undertake and project specific security training
  • Work with client side security officers on matters relating to our staff and their security clearances
  • Mentor junior staff who may also be providing security related functions
  • Contribute to client facing security tasks as required
  • Essential

  • Sound working knowledge of the Defence Security Principals Framework, Protective Security Policy Framework and Information Security Manual
  • 5+ years previous experience as a Security Officer Excellent relationship and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work under limited direction and prioritise tasks within a diverse, distributed and high tempo environment
  • Strong communication skills including verbal and written
  • Proven experience developing, contributing to and implementing security plans, policies and procedures.
  • Experience in operating security systems and processes (access control, alarms and systems, CCTV footage)
  • Defence Security Officers accreditation (DS&VS) or ability to attain
  • Desirable

  • Formal qualifications in a related field
  • As the successful candidate you will be an Australian citizen with a minimum BASELINE security clearance with the ability to obtain an NV1. This position will be based within our Canberra office however has national responsibility. The position may require interstate travel from time to time post-COVID-19 restrictions.
