Cardno’s National Water & Environment team provides strategic and practical solutions to clients with environmental management and risk mitigation challenges. We are currently seeking a bushfire planning and management lead to set the strategic direction and grow our existing bushfire consulting capability and capacity within Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. You will play an active part in the growth of the bushfire services business, including business development and project delivery working with a dedicated team of specialists. The role can be based from any of the Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Sunshine Coast offices.
Your responsibilities will include –
Work closely with the National Environment Business Leader in developing the business strategy for the bushfire services teamWork on a range of large scale infrastructure, transport, urban, energy projects, as well as strategic land use planning and asset management studies that need to be informed by contemporary bushfire risk assessmentsRecruitment, mentoring and supervising bushfire consultantsWork and collaborate across a multi-disciplinary team of technical urban design, land use planning, asset management, transport infrastructure and ecological specialistsProvision of technical direction, oversight and delivery of a diversity of bushfire simulation and risk assessment projectsDeliver projects with a focus on exceeding client requirements and providing technical excellenceBuild positive and effective long term relationships with external clients and stakeholdersUndertake business development activities such as proposal preparation, client engagement and participation at relevant industry forums
Ideally you will possess –
Degree level qualifications in Environmental Science/Environmental Planning/Natural Resource Management/Ecology or related field with a bushfire specialisation, and / or relevant experience in bushfire planning and management.Technical understanding of bushfire science, bushfire risk assessment and mitigation, and associated land use planning and approvals processesSolid industry experience as a Bushfire Specialist preferably with substantial prior experience working successfully within a consultancy companyHigh level analytical, written reporting and excellent communication skillsExcellent interpersonal and relationship building skills, as you will liaise with team members from different disciplines, clients and government agencies to ensure delivery of innovative solutions that meet client and broader community expectationsBe ambitious and have the drive to be successfulStrong team playerHave a demonstrated ability to use your initiative to solve problems and assist your work colleagues and clients to provide high quality advice and deliverablesHave a commitment to undertaking business development activities and building skills to help ensure future growth of the bushfire planning and management services areas within CardnoBe flexible in geographic locations of work as some travel will be requiredPrior experience in an operational fire role such as Rural Fire Services, National Parks etc. is desirable.
