The Senior Developer will be involved in the Data Foundations initiative which is an organisation-wide initiative to move our core data assets (cleaned and curated) into the REA Data Platform (BigQuery) for use by analysts, data science and engineering teams.. What you’ll be doing. Designing, coding, testing, and deploying data pipelines using Docker, Airflow, SQL, Ruby and Scala. Supporting various external teams and internal SQL developers to implement new data pipelines. Supporting production deployments of our data products. Identifying, tracking, and remediating data quality issues as well as perform exception handling across a broad variety of data sets. Analysing and producing data coverage and quality statistics across internal and external data sets to provide a high level of awareness across multiple teams. Following agile software development practices such as test-driven development, continuous delivery and pair programming.. Sharing responsibility for all operational aspects of the software that we build, in support of our “you build it; you run it” philosophy where dev-ops is a part of everyday life.. Working with product managers to understand business priorities and communicate technical options, report on progress and express ideas. Providing technical mentoring and guidance to less experienced members of the team.. What we’re after. Strong programming skills with at least 5 years’ experience in a mainstream programming language, preferably in Ruby, SQL, Scala.. Experience with designing and automating data pipelines. Good understanding of best practices for delivering data pipelines to production, including monitoring and alerting, continuous delivery and change impact analysis. Experience with devops tools and techniques, particularly AWS, CloudFormation, GCP, and Docker. Experience with modern software development techniques such as test-driven development, microservice architecture and continuous delivery.. The REA Experience.
