About the Queensland Children’s Hospital

The Queensland Children’s Hospital (QCH) (formerly The Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital), which opened on 29 November 2014, is Australia’s largest and most advanced paediatric facility. Located in South Brisbane, the 359-bed hospital features more than 80,000 square meters of facilities spread across 12 levels.

As Queensland’s single specialist paediatric facility, Children’s Health Queensland’s (CHQ) at the QCH is the hub of a dedicated network of paediatric services available at other Brisbane and Queensland hospitals. Expanding on CHQ’s state-wide remit, the QCH also supports regional hospitals through telemedicine and outreach services. This means children and young people can access the services they need as close to home as possible.

The hospital precinct includes the Centre for Children’s Health Research, the Children’s Hospital Foundation, Ronald McDonald House South Brisbane (opened in 2016) and a new Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Service building.

Your Opportunity:

The Senior Medical Officer will provide high level specialist paediatric services within a tertiary setting to ensure the provision of high quality, safe and family centred care within CHQ HHS and for designated outreach.

How will you be assessed?

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following key attributes against our values. Within the context of the ‘Your Role and Responsibilities’ described above, the ideal applicant will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • You will hold appropriate qualifications, skills and current experience in Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at a level appropriate for provision of tertiary level services. For Respiratory Medicine, this will include current experience in flexible bronchoscopy. For Sleep Medicine, this will include recent and ongoing experience and continuous professional development in the evaluation of sleep studies and management of non-invasive and chronic invasive ventilation.
  • You will have a track record of academic and professional excellence through your contribution in areas including research, teaching or relevant professional peer leadership.
  • You will be a team player and be willing and able to work collaboratively and positively within the service and organisation. You will be recognised for your abilities to lead and work together with staff from various professional disciplines and to build effective and cohesive teams.
  • You will be an exceptional communicator; able to adjust your communication style for the audience and with high levels of emotional intelligence.
