The Townsville Hospital and Health Service is seeking a suitably qualified Staff Specialist (Respiratory) to provide high quality clinical and non-clinical services. This includes research as well as teaching the health professionals of the future.

The Townsville Hospital and Health Service covers an area roughly two and a half times the size of France and provides complex, high level services across a wide range of specialities. There are 18 hospitals and community campuses and two aged care facilities and the main hospital is the only tertiary hospital in North Queensland.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to,

  • To provide expert consultation and advice directly to patients, as well as within the organisation as required
  • Ensuring high quality and timely clinical and non-clinical documentation and management of information whether paper-based or enabled by information technology. This includes being responsible for the quality and timeliness of documentation of medical staff who report to this position, including junior doctors.
  • Professional quality written communication in all documentation, including the medical record, emails and formal letters and reports
  • Being a patient advocate and engaging positively with patients and their carers

  • Possession of a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) qualifications or equivalent.
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Respiratory and Sleep Studies) or equivalent.
  • Skills in interventional bronchoscopy such as EBUS would be highly desirable

Other requirements

  • A class C motor vehicle licence
  • This position may require the incumbent to work at other facilities within the THHS
  • Other information – Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) Roles that have a direct contact with patients or who in the course of their work may be exposed to blood/body fluids or contaminated sharps are required to be immunised for Hepatitis B.
