  • At ,we reside on Wiradjuri Land with a student population of 220, of whom 60%identify as Aboriginal. Narromine High School has a strong tradition ofacademic, cultural and sporting success. Students consistently achieve theirdesired post school options, including university placement, apprenticeshipsand traineeships. A diverse curriculum, supported by well– maintained facilities,including a trade training centre and a language centre, ensures the interestsand academic levels of all students are met. The Wellbeing Framework supportsthe system for student behaviour and learning. This underpins a strong studentwelfare ethos in the school.

    As part of a , the NSW Department of Education has a numberof fulltime positions to support the wellbeing of students.

    About the role: Student Support Officerswork within the school community to enhance student wellbeing and learningoutcomes in partnership with the wellbeing team and the school counsellingservice. Student Support Officers provide individual and targeted wellbeingsupport and whole of school wellbeing initiatives and programs that areevidence-based. They have a pivotal role in working collaboratively withexternal agencies and creating referral pathways for students and families tochild and family support agencies.

    Diploma or higher qualifications in Youth Work orrelevant Human Services including Youth Work, Counselling, Social Science,Social Work and demonstrated successfulexperience working with young people to improve their wellbeing and mentalhealth.

    NOTE: Recreation leave andflexible working hours

    Student SupportOfficers employed under the Government Sector Employment Act 2013 are remuneratedfor 52 weeks per annum, required to work for 48 weeks pa with 4 weeksrecreation leave. Hours of duty will be seven (7) hours per day, excludingbreaks. Applications for recreation leave will not be approved during schoolterm time and Student Support Officers will be required to attend work duringschool vacations unless they are accessing approved leave.

    Requests for flexdays in accordance with the Department’s Flexible Working Hours Agreement willbe subject to the Department’s operational convenience which will generallyrequire that flex leave will only be approved during the school vacations.

    A recruitment pool may be createdthrough this recruitment process to fill future Student Support Officer roles(including both temporary and ongoing). A recruitment pool is valid for 18months.
