The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity is now available for experienced Technical Writers to provide vital services to our Engineering team. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate the necessary document templates to ensure a consistent document standard is established and maintained across platforms and media
  • Create and/or perform editorial reviews of processes, policies, procedures, business and product documentation as required
  • Collaborate with SMEs to understand, discuss and gather technically complex product information and ensure that documentation follows the correct process for review and sign-off
  • Determine the needs of users of technical documentation and generate assembly and test work instructions using language and words that are easy to understand
  • Incorporate animation, graphs, illustrations, or photographs to increase users’ understanding of the material
  • Edit material prepared by other writers or staff to ensure that documentation adheres to the styles, fonts, colours and format define by the L3Harris Corporation
  • Analyse existing and potential content, focusing on reuse and single-sourcing opportunities
  • Assist in improvements of development and deployment of a Document Management System (DMS)
  • Create and maintain documents following Micreo procedures to ensure compliance with AS9100
  • Write technically accurate and grammatically correct documentation that meets standards and are easy to use
  • Work with moderate to minimal oversight from senior technical personnel and identify documentation issues and bring these to their attention
  • Research and collect usability feedback from customers, designers, and manufacturers
  • Other ad hoc duties as required​​​​​​​
  • Selection Criteria

  • Very strong attention to detail skills.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ demonstrated experience in a Technical Writing role (within the defence industry will be highly desirable)
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products, specifically Word
  • Experience working within an Engineering/Production environment
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated record of success with generating/maintaining high-quality technical documents
  • Well-developed writing skills with demonstrated ability to write in a clear and concise manner and tailor style and language to the audience
  • Ability to translate highly technical information into easily understandable information for internal and external customers
  • Creative skills and usage of photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts that increase users’ understanding
  • Excellent written skills in English, particularly grammar and spelling
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take written or verbal information and format it according to established company standards and templates
  • Experience creating a variety of documentation types including processes flows, procedures, manuals
  • A proven ability to quickly establish productive working relationships with stakeholders and be a team player
  • University degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent will be advantageous
  • Security

    Candidates will be required to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance as a condition of their employment.

    Candidates will only be considered for a position at L3 Harris Technologies if they are eligible to hold a security clearance.

    A NEGATIVE VETTING LEVEL ONE (NV1) s ecurity clearance is required for this position. Candidates must be an Australian citizen and have a checkable background of at least 10 years. A current NV1 security clearance is highly desirable.
