At Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) we provide a range of public health services to the Riverina and Murray regions of New South Wales; across a geographic area of approximately 125,631 square kilometres. With around 241,000 residents living within our District, we employ approximately 4,000 staff who work within our 31 hospitals and community facilities.

A Visiting Medical Officer is required to provide GP Procedural services in Obstetrics at Tumut District Hospital. The VMO will provide a high level of clinical care to patients and participate in the on call roster. The successful applicant will possess DRANZCOG Advanced and Fellowship of RACGP or ACRRM.

Murrumbidgee Local Health District requires Visiting Medical Officers to participate in service and policy development as well as an involvement with education, training and quality projects activities. Tumut Health Service provides emergency, medical, surgical, and maternity services. Of the 34 beds, four are day surgery and four are bassinets. A full range of community health services are available including community nursing, allied health and mental health services.

Tumut sits on the north-west foothills of the Snowy Mountains and is referred to as the gateway to the Snowy Mountains Scheme. Tumut is approximately 410kms from south-west of Sydney and 525kms north-east of Melbourne. With a population of just over 6,000 residents Tumut has lots of exciting spots to explore including a range of tracks and trails, rivers and waterways, Mount Kosciusko and goldfields. There are a range of education and child care options including a primary school, high school, special school and catholic school up to Year 10. Qantaslink and Regional Express operate direct flights to Sydney and Melbourne from Wagga Wagga Airport on a daily basis, which is 110kms from Tumut.

  • Holds registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist General Practitioner.
  • Experience and formal recognition as a Procedural General Practitioner with advanced skills and DRANZCOG advanced or equivalent.
  • Minimum three (3) years post graduate clinical experience. Previous experience in Emergency Medicine, General Practice, Adult Internal Medicine, Paediatrics or Rural Medicine an advantage.
  • Knowledge of contemporary clinical management and modern approaches in assessment and management of the broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions. Competence in performing the range of minor urgent procedures commonly undertaken in a rural emergency department including Advanced Life Support and Trauma management
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, and research and quality improvement.
  • Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.
  • Demonstrated commitment to behaviours which align to the NSW Health CORE values and MLHD Values, goals and strategies.
