Highways Superintendent

Role Summary

You'll be playing a key role in ensuring the safety of highway users across Somerset’s highway network. You will identify and address risks, deliver maintenance and improvement works, and oversee regulatory and permitting responsibilities. Acting as a local technical expert, you will ensure Council statutory duties are met and advise on highway legislation, traffic management, and highway conditions. You will coordinate local priorities, manage budgets, monitor service provider performance, and collaborate with parish councils, elected members and emergency services to agree priorities and maintain safe operation. You will help ensure planned works meet design, safety and compliance obligations, contributing to continuous service improvement and enhanced safety.
