The key focusof the Kulunga team is to guide and support Research teams to connect withAboriginal children and families and to build the capacity and development ofInstitute researchers and staff working on Aboriginal Health & Wellbeingprojects.
As the Capacity BuildingCoordinator, you will play an integral role in supporting the implementation ofour Aboriginal Employment and Capacity Development Strategy which aims to facilitate further capacity buildingopportunities of our Aboriginal staff and students to enhance thesustainability and skills of our workforce.
Reporting to ourOperations Manager and closely working with other members of the Kulunga team,you will support the design of capacity building plans, projects and programsto facilitate awareness, understanding and positive relationships across theTelethon Kids Institute and local communities. Building and maintaining strongrelationships with the Institute's Aboriginal staff network and key stakeholdergroups, including universities, will be a key focus of this position.
Some of yourresponsibilities will include:
Assisting with site specific Cultural Awareness Training and other relevant cultural training including immersion programs, Aboriginal Research Methodologies and good clinical practice. Participating in collaborative projects across the Institute to strengthen and diversify knowledge and skills of staff and to further enhance community outcomes. Building sound networks and relationships to facilitate effective communication, information sharing and increased understanding of culturally appropriate practice between the Institute, Aboriginal staff and communities. Acting as a point of contact between staff and families of various cultural backgrounds to ensure a culturally competent and safe interaction. Based in our office in Broome, this position will beoffered on a part-time basis (2.5 days per week) for 12 months in the firstinstance.
About You This position would suitsomeone with a deep commitment to building the capacity of Aboriginal peopleand communities coupled with experience in the development and delivery oftraining. Along with that, the key to your success will be your skills and experiencein the following areas:
Ability to use initiative and strong communication skills. Relevant experience in administration, project management or supporting training programs. A developed understanding of Aboriginal research, research design and application across diverse cultural settings. Great people skills with the ability to develop strong internal and external relationships. Strong cultural awareness of varying cultures that reside within Western Australia.
