We currently have offices in Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney, and are in the process of securing an office in Perth.
About the role
The NACC has several Lawyer positions available at the APS5 and APS6 level for immediate filling. As part of this recruitment process, we hope to establish merit pools in each office location to fill vacancies as they arise over the next 18 months from the date of advertising in the APS Gazette (APS Jobs).
The positions can be based in Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, and Sydney.
The NACC's Lawyers assist the Commissioner to progress investigations in a range of matters across the Commonwealth by providing legal services on a range of legal issues, including advising on the use of investigative and coercive powers.
Every day as a lawyer at the NACC is dynamic and challenging. As part of the Legal Branch, you will develop broad, highly marketable skills.
The work of a lawyer at the NACC is meaningful and important. You will leave work each day knowing you have contributed to the integrity of the Australian Public Service through the detection, investigation, and prevention of serious or systemic corrupt conduct.

Key activities
• Assisting with the progression of investigations by providing legal advice on warrant applications, notices to produce and investigation reports.
• Advising on preliminary investigations and corruption investigations, including the use of investigative and coercive powers under the National Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2022 (Cth) and related laws, including the Crimes Act 1914 (Cth), Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979 (Cth) and the Surveillance Devices Act 2004 (Cth).
• Instructing Counsel Assisting in coercive hearings.
• Advising on employment, commercial, governance and administrative law matters.
• Contributing to the development of legal policy.
• Assessing and responding to Freedom of Information requests in accordance with applicable legislation.
• Contribute to legal knowledge within the NACC and jurisdictional agencies through a commitment to continued legal education and training, and
• Represent the interests of the NACC and helping to manage the NACC's relationships with relevant stakeholders, internally and externally.
In addition to these activities, from time to time you may be asked to undertake tasks that are outside your usual span of duties but that are within the range of your capabilities. Supporting one another in this way provides opportunities for exposure across the agency and is an integral part of the NACC's positive workplace culture.

A degree in law from an Australian tertiary institution or comparable overseas qualification and admission in Australia as a legal practitioner. A restricted practising certificate or the ability to obtain one. A minimum of three years post-admission legal experience. Employment with the NACC is subject to the following conditions:
Citizenship – applicants must be an Australian Citizen. Security clearance – this is a Designated Security Assessment Position. The occupant of this position will be required to undergo and maintain a security clearance to Negative Vetting 1. Suitability assessment - the NACC must be satisfied that successful applicants are of suitable character. They must undergo a rigorous pre-employment suitability screening process that can be intrusive in nature including (but is not limited to) detailed background, character, employment, police and financial checks. Probation - a probation period will apply to a new ongoing engagement in the Australian Public Service.
