The Project
UGL and CPB Contractors have been awarded the early works contract to support Powerlink’s delivery of CopperString 2032. This $5 billion iconic project will initially be approximately 840 kilometres of new transmission line running from just south of Townsville to Mount Isa that will connect Queensland’s North West Minerals Province to the national electricity grid. The project scope includes:
• 500 kilovolt (kV) transmission line from just south of Townsville to Hughenden
• 330kV transmission line from Hughenden to Cloncurry
• 220kV transmission line from Cloncurry to Mount Isa
• Up to six new substation sites.
This exciting project will commence construction in 2024 and we are currently looking for an experienced Environmental Manager to join the team. The role will be based in Brisbane Copperstring office with regular site visits.
Working with guidance from the HSEQ Director you will provide constructability inputs into Client led environmental approvals, identify/obtain secondary approvals, and ensure the implementation of conditions/commitments/contract requirements in all work streams. The next 18 months is focused on environmental planning and system development before then transitioning into delivery management controls and compliance.
What will a day in this role look like:
- Work with all stakeholders providing guidance on environmental requirements relevant to planning and deliverables
- Build approvals awareness and capability within the project team and accountable frameworks
- Identify risk that will constrain approvals and sustainability outcomes, and propose ways to enhance positive outcomes
- Lead a team on all deliverables relating to environment and sustainability outcomes
What are we looking for you to bring to the team:
- 15+ years’ experience with a combination of construction, environmental approvals and project management.
- Advanced skills in scheduling and programing on major linear infrastructure projects
- Evidence based/rationale decision making using critical thinking methodologies
- An ability to manage multiple stakeholders and competing interests
