This role is a key member of our Senior Management team, leading Guardian Australia's human resources department, including employee and industrial relations, diversity and inclusion, recruitment, staff training and development and workplace regulatory compliance.In this role you will…Implement, review and update HR policies and procedures, as requiredMaintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes and employment law and provide expert advice to the Managing Director, Editor, Managing Editor, CFO and other senior leaders across the businessEnsure HR plans align with local and global strategic objectivesWork with the Managing Director, Editor and Managing Editor to manage resourcing for commercial and editorial teamsBe the main point of contact for the UK HR team, ensuring best practice and taking advantage of economies of scaleManage HR budget, including for training and developmentSupport Senior HR Manager - Commercial with the ongoing implementation and operation of Guardian Australia's global HRIS, Oracle FusionRole model Guardian Australia's values and behaviours and drive/reinforce company cultureER/IRApply Awards/ National Employment Standards and interpret as required, while keeping up to date with IR changes and developmentsSupport managers with disciplinary, grievance, sensitive employee cases and complex employee relations matters and manage investigations as required. Log all work in a case management toolLead the effective management of organisational change, including restructuresImplement, administer and interpret Guardian Australia's Enterprise AgreementManage all IR mattersRepresent Guardian Australia in union negotiationsEnsure compliance with workplace laws and liaise with external organisations as appropriate to facilitate and enable effective and legally compliant employee relationsIn collaboration with HR Managers, provide advice to managers on a range of general HR areas including: reward, people development, contractual issues, organisation changeStaff training and developmentOversee Guardian Australia's performance and development review process, encouraging managers to conduct annual performance discussions and set development plansOversee facilitation of staff development and training programsLead compensation review and any other cyclical activity determined by internal policy or external legal / compliance requirementsDiversity and InclusionPromote a diverse, inclusive and representative workplace that is fair, accessible, respectful and flexible and supports Guardian Australia's vision to reflect the diversity of the audience we serveProactively drive and implement GA's diversity and inclusion strategyAct as the ‘RAP Champion' for Guardian Australia's Reconciliation Action Plan , including raising the profile of reconciliation as an organisational priority, chairing the RAP working group, developing and launching future RAPs and leading by example and actioning assigned actions and deliverablesOversee the diversity and inclusion forum and help define and drive key areas of focus, monitor performance and ensure all efforts are aligned with Guardian Australia's diversity and inclusion strategic objectivesOversee the implementation of training programs and initiatives that contribute to creating a more diverse and inclusive workplaceEmployee EngagementDevelop and implement strategies to improve Guardian Australia's staff engagement, with a view to creating a strong and supportive staff cultureRecruitmentOversee recruitment activity and ensure all recruitment practices adhere to Guardian Australia's recruitment policyWorkplace Health & SafetyPromote a safe and secure workplaceWork with management and internal communications to manage the internal response to crisis situationsYou'll bring….10-15+ years of HR experienceExperience with IR and working in a unionised environment, including experience working with union representatives and employee delegatesExperience negotiating and implementing enterprise agreements (desirable)A passion for diversity and inclusion, including experience developing and implementing diversity and inclusion strategies, policies, programs and initiativesStrong analytical skills and the ability to translate data into actionable insightsAn interest in, and understanding of, the Guardian's editorial values and brandExperience working within, or good appreciation of, working within a busy editorial media organisationThorough understanding and application of relevant employment laws and enterprise bargaining agreementsExperience and capability in conducting workplace investigationsUnderstanding of sensitivities surrounding information going into the public domainRelevant administration experience across payroll, rostering and HR functionsExperience in monitoring and improving employee engagementExperience managing and mentoring junior members of staffDemonstrable track record in working in a fast-paced, high volume role and deadline-driven environmentExperience dealing with a diverse range of stakeholders and situationsKnowledge and interest in current affairsAbout working at Guardian Australia…Employee assistance program (EAP) to support employee wellbeingDedicated diversity and inclusion employee groups, action plans (including our Reconciliation Action Plan ) and cultural competency trainingFor more information please view the full job description here This role is being offered on a full-time permanent basis.To apply for this position, please apply online and upload your résumé (maximum three pages) plus covering letter.
