POSITION DESCRIPTIONThe Manager, Data & Analytics Engineering reports to the Director, Data & Analytics and is part of the Data & Analytics leadership team. In this capacity, this role provides leadership and work direction to a cross-functional team of Data Engineers, BI Engineers, and Analytics Full Stack Engineers who build data pipelines, datasets, analytics solutions, and ML models.This role manages a team of 5-8 people and partners with Data Product Managers within the department to build world class data & analytics solutions for our internal business stakeholders. As both a people leader and data technical expert, this role ensures the team is delivering using an agile delivery approach and has exception customer service, quality, timeliness, productivity, and people satisfaction and engagement.Additionally, this role is a practice owner for one or more internal practices such as data engineering, BI & analytics solutions engineering, data literacy & education, agile delivery, data platform engineering, statistics & advanced analytics, and data science. In this capacity, the Manager, Data & Analytics Engineering drives the practice evolution across the department and the broader BCI.The position can be based in either Vancouver or Victoria with travel between the two cities.WHAT YOU BRINGMust have:A university degree in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or a related fieldA minimum of 5 years of experience working in Data & Analytics, inclusive of 3 years in a supervisory or management capacityWorking knowledge of cloud-based data pipelines, data platforms, data engineering, data warehousing, and analytics solutions/business intelligence architectures, technologies, and best practicesExcellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills and abilitiesDemonstrated experience leading teams using data-driven approachesPreferred:Demonstrated experience of continuous improvement delivery using agile methodologiesDemonstrated experience in managing technology infrastructure projectsDemonstrated experience leading data science and advanced analytics functionsExpert knowledge in one or more of the following: SQL, Python, the Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, PowerApps, Power Automate), Azure SQL platforms (SQL MI, Synapse), Azure Data Factory, Azure Machine Learning, Azure Databricks, MS Fabric, SnowflakeWorking knowledge of data governanceWHAT YOU WILL DOLeads a data and analytics team to deliver using standard approaches, patterns, and best practicesCollaborates with Data Product Managers to ensure the engineering team is aligned to delivering value as prioritized and scopedProvides deep expertise, guidance, and mentoring to data practitioners and leaders across the department and organization, and designs and delivers stakeholder engagement opportunitiesDrives and evolves one or more data practices across the department and broader BCIEvaluates emerging technologies and advises on feasible opportunities to integrate third-party products and services into data-related roadmaps to maximize business valueCreates a supportive and healthy working environment within the department by ensuring effective communication, collaboration, and teamwork, by providing opportunities for talent development, and by recognizing employee contributions and achievementsParticipates in business, project and delivery planning; prepares necessary data-related business cases, narratives for planning and delivery of data & analytics initiativesMaintains current expert knowledge in the field by reviewing relevant applied research, and by maintaining appropriate professional and external contactsUndertakes special projects or assignments as requiredPerforms other related duties as required WHERE YOU WILL WORK Work from either of our downtown Victoria or Vancouver offices.SALARY RANGEBCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off.The annualized base salary range for this Vancouver or Victoria-based role is CAD $95,000 to $125,000 .The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we compete for talent and with consideration to internal equity and job structure.
