The opportunity
This hospital has a 22-bed General Paediatric ward, a 4-bed Paediatric Day Stay Unit, and a 12-bed level 2 Neonatal Unit. Their Paediatric Department is looking for additional team members. These are suitable for Paediatric trainees with at least six months of Paediatric experience. Previous Neonatal experience is desirable but not essential. Their positions are accredited for up to two years of Basic Training with the RACP. They are also suitable for advanced trainees in specialties needing Paediatric experience, such as Emergency Medicine or Anaesthesia.
The Paediatric Department is a busy supportive department of 13 SMOs and 2 Fellows on the consultant roster. They provide an excellent opportunity to gain first-hand experience managing a wide range of acute Paediatric presentations. They have an active education programme. Registrars are rostered in supervised outpatient clinics and are on an 8-person roster that includes day shifts, evenings, long days and nights with a 1:8 frequency.
4 SHO positions are also available for those with no prior Paediatric experience. Registrars help provide supervision to SHOs along with the consultant Paediatric staff.
