About the opportunity: The Aje Athletica Product Developer will be responsible for ensuring Aje Athletica collections meet creative and commercial goals, through close management of Design and Development to achieve expected targets. The Product Developer represents the Design team to the wider business and acts as the gatekeeper and conduit of information through to the product teams. This role is a 9-month Freelancer Contract and is actively involved with overarching business objectives, and works closely with the Production, Merchandising, Trade and Marketing teams to ensure all product can meet our goals. Day-to-day support of deadlines and long-term planning should reflect and support the evolving objectives of Aje Athletica. You will actively participate in the product development schedule, updating and refining as needed. You will have a responsibility to improve efficiencies and workflow by implementing new processes, building on existing development systems, and restructuring where opportunities are identified. Key responsibilities include: CRITICAL PATH / PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT Effectively support the development of 3-4 seasons at one time by working with seasonal timelines according to the company wide critical path, Responsible for delivering collections in accordance with costing benchmarks, critical path timing and to expected quality standards, ensuring there is a harmonious balance between creative direction, range plan and pricing hierarchy requirements. Support the product development process of Aje Athletica according to the brand standards expected for design, quality, fit, sustainability, pricing structure and margins. Accountable for ensuring all design and development deadlines are met and in adherence with the critical path, prioritizing workflow for the entire design team under the guidance of the Head of Production and Design Operations. Ensuring all risk where a delay to development is mitigated and reduced. Maintain the seasonal sampling tracker/costing spreadsheet and update cross functional teams on protos and SMS delivery dates which guides the design team to successful outcomes. Data entry of correct style information into AP21 through all stages of the development cycle. Prepare all samples, data, and documents relative to key Seasonal Ranging Meetings. Work alongside the Head of Production and Design Operations and Head of Design for factory allocations to build a coherent and balanced manufacturing structure. Responsible for nurturing a respectful and positive relationship with Aje Athletica suppliers, while introducing new suppliers when required to improve profitability and growth/expansion into new product categories. Supporting to organize, prepare and complete the handover of the whole collection to the production team in line with critical path dates. PRODUCT - GARMENT CARE – TESTING STANDARDS and REQUIREMENTS Manage the workload of Aje Athletica design team members to ensure successful completion of Sketching and CADs in adherence to the development deadlines. Working alongside Designers to create tech packs, including cover sheets and BOMs while maintaining accuracy throughout the development process, ensuring all design, fit, trim, technical construction, finishings and references are clearly explained in tech packs. Communicate, follow, and execute all fabric/trims sourcing and developments in line with sustainability standards and goals, design direction, quality standards, target price, margin and sustainability considerations. Oversee color standards, prints & embroidery developments from initial stage through to sign off. Align standards on construction techniques and quality, and ensure suppliers understand standards required to produce for the brand, reporting on progress and performance to the Head of Design Operations and Production. Sample Management and tracking of all design and development samples, inclusive of samples being handed over to their respective departments. Working closely with our garment technicians to help create quality, fit and finish consistency for products. Attend all fit sessions across Proto and SMS Samples, Supporting the Garment tech team by reporting fit notes directly into tech packs while fitting is taking place. Proactive management of potential quality issues or risks at all stages and drive resolution. Understand appropriate Care label methods for developed styles and Selected fabrications Apply fabrication testing standards and requirements, Complete inhouse and external sample or fabric testing where necessary Contribute to building the Aje Athletica internal handbook and Supplier manual. Assess any consumer and wholesale returns and ensure any recurring issues are addressed. Organization, storing and Rotation of hanging and boxed design Samples (Proto and SMS Samples) in the head office in conjunction with tech team. PRICING & INVOICING Apply target prices to all new and existing styles in development Review and Negotiate prices with suppliers to ensure target margins are achieved or exceeded and report any costing issues to the Head of Design Operations and Production. Maintain pricing of all development product in AP21 Supporting Head of Production and Design Operations with sampling and development budgets across all Aje Athletica in Design. Weekly approval of all design and design development invoices in line with fiscal year budgeting Monthly review of development budget savings and impacts or overspends. Qualifications and skills: 5 years' experience specialising in development of activewear Highly Proficient in Excel Experience and extensive understanding of creating tech packs Strong technical knowledge of fit, pattern making and construction across performance activewear including lycra, fleece, cut and sew, spray styles and wovens. Exceptional understanding of both athletic and designer fabrications and garment construction techniques. Excellent interpersonal and technical communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders A proven track record working with offshore manufacturing and technical management of suppliers Ability to manage competing priorities and timelines and ensure deadlines are met and managed based on the importance and timeframe and critical path A creative thinker with a considered but agile approach An elevated eye for fabrics, finishes, construction, trims. Exceptional understanding of designer and luxury quality, details, fabrications and fit.
