Forensic Scientific Services are seeking a permanent full-time HP4 Bioinformatics Analyst to join our team. Located in Coopers Plains the primary purpose of this position to provide bioinformatics advice and support to the scientists of Public and Environmental Health (PEH) particularly around developing and supporting tools and pipelines for next generation sequencing analysis of notifiable and emerging pathogens including SARS-CoV-2. The position will support, improve and automate software programs used as database and scientific tools within laboratories and oversee high performance and virtual and cloud computing used within the facility.

What we are looking for:
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following key capabilities, knowledge and experience. Within the context of the responsibilities described under ‘your key responsibilities’, the ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
Demonstrated knowledge of UNIX like operating systems and command line operated software.
Demonstrated proficiency in programming languages (Python, Java etc).
Demonstrated expertise with bioinformatic analysis and pipelines. Familiarity with next generation sequence data would be viewed favourably.
Experience with high performance computing including cloud computing and database management.
Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of autonomy in a multidisciplinary team, while prioritising workload and meeting deadlines.
Experience or knowledge in the bioinformatic analysis and LIMS related next generation sequencing workflow of bacterial and/or viral genomes is desirable.
