What you’ll be doing The Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers high quality person-centred nursing care in accordance with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia Standards for Practice for Registered Nurses, and the Policies and Procedures of the MoH and NNSWLHD.

The NNSWLHD Sustaining NSW Families program is a nurse led home visiting service to vulnerable families and utilises findings from the Miller Early Childhood Sustained Home Visiting Program (MESCH). The aim of the service is to improve the health, development and wellbeing outcomes for women, children and families through a sustained home visiting program. The service aims to improve the transition to parenting using a “strength based” approach by supporting mothers and families with psychosocial and environmental issues for the first two postnatal years.

  • Current registration with Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) and post graduate qualifications in Child and Family Health nursing or equivalent. . A willingness to complete Advanced Nurse Practice (through Tresillian) within 12 months of employment.
  • Demonstrated experience in working in partnership with vulnerable families and a demonstrated understanding of early intervention, including the theoretical basis that underpins effective sustained home visiting, prevention and community development and a working knowledge of the Child Wellbeing and Child Protection Interagency Guidelines.
  • Evidence of post-registration experience working with families and young children; including those from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds using a Family Partnership model.
  • Demonstrated ability to use problem solving skills and a multidisciplinary team approach in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care.
  • Demonstrated effective communication through the use of information technology, written, verbal and interpersonal skills with the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to practice in accordance with legislation, policies and within the scope of practice of a Registered Nurse.
  • Understanding of the principles of primary health care practice and integrated care and their applicability to service delivery.
  • Valid unrestricted drivers licence for use in NSW/Australia and willingness to travel in the course of employment.
