Waverley is a diverse and innovative Council located in the heart of Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. With a broad range of services, programs and initiatives, Waverley is one of NSW’s leading local government areas. Taking in some of Sydney’s most beautiful beaches including the world famous Bondi Beach, and encompassing part of Sydney’s global economic corridor at Bondi Junction, Waverley Council is an enriching place to broaden your career.

Connecting community is central to local government action. The Manager, Communications & Engagement is a key driver of Council’s strategies and activities that inform and engage the community, and promote positive media relations and brand identity.

Leading a team of skilled and experienced professionals, this position directs the provision of a broad range of communications and engagement services across Council, and mobilises the team to deliver strong results organisation-wide.

Communications responsibilities include: publication support; web content development support and management of Council’s digital assets; event management support; coordination of corporate advertising; public relations; marketing; and graphic design. Community engagement responsibilities involve applying community engagement strategy and policy to ensure that Waverley’s culture is inclusive, participatory and consultative.

The manager also provides communications guidance and advice to the Mayor and Executive Leadership Team including tactical advice to mitigate issues and leverage opportunities, and specialist advice on major community consultation projects.

To be considered, you will need relevant tertiary qualifications and seasoned experience in a similar or related leadership position. Your ability to develop policies and strategic frameworks, systems and tools, along with your ability to engage, lead and inspire others will be the key to your success in this critical position.
