The Geotechnical Group is a Hatch global practice providing Geotechnical engineering design expertise to Hatch’s business units. Our capability spans through the whole project lifecycle, comprising scoping, conceptual design, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, basic and detailed engineering, construction and project management.

We are currently seeking a talented Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to become part of our expanding Geotechnical Discipline, in our  Perth Office . The candidate role will be to support and execute challenging projects and ensuring technical excellence, with mining related projects as well as supporting the Infrastructure business unit. Exceptional writing and interpersonal skills are essential. 

You will be responsible for organising and undertaking field investigations, preparing engineering calculations, technical specifications and reports for both front-end planning studies and the detailed engineering phase for multi-disciplinary projects which will include large scale infrastructure projects in Australia and specifically Victoria. The role will be a client facing role and have the backing of a large group of geotechnical engineers in Brisbane.

Key responsibilities:

  • Engineering support to geotechnical projects from concept to construction. Projects will generally be across all sectors of our business, Metals, Infrastructure and Energy.
  • Participate in the planning, execution, and reporting on field investigation programs including desktop study, field mapping, test pits, drilling, sampling, testing and instrumentation installation.
  • Undertaking geotechnical engineering analyses and designs including railway embankments, and cut slopes, foundation designs for Civil Infrastructure, tailings and hydro dam designs; slope stability assessments; seismic design, liquefaction analysis, pavement design, pile design, seepage and piping assessments and soil improvement designs.
  • Prepare calculations notes, drawings, specifications and bills of quantities.
  • Coordinate and write engineering report
  • Support project management and client management duties for projects as required.
  • Writing proposals for Engineering Services Requests
  • Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Geological Engineering or Civil Engineering (with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering).
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Professional Engineer in Australia.
  • Geotechnical engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in Geotechnical site investigation and design, site characterization, soft soil engineering, foundation assessments and recommendations, seismic assessment and liquefaction analysis, seepage and piping assessment, and construction support from tendering to inspections.
  • Leadership skills with a proven aptitude to mentor and develop junior engineers, designers and technicians.
  • Team focused with excellent interpersonal skills and understanding of multidisciplinary projects.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills.
  • Good working knowledge of specialized Geotechnical software and modeling tools (Geostudio Suite, RocScience Suite, gInt, LPILE, Plaxis, etc).
