About us

Cocoon Group Services supports every person with a disability’s right to have suitable accommodation.

With a network of houses across NSW, we are an NDIS registered provider that offers our clients the chance to live closer to friends and family in the best possible homes.

In addition to providing excellence in housing, we wish to offer high quality support.

Our complementary agency provides support workers to our houses.

About the Role

As a Support Worker, you will be assigned to one house, or a group of adjacent houses and may support multiple clients with disability at that location.

As an empathetic and dedicated individual, you will rapidly assume a significant role in our housing client’s lives, allowing them to live their best life and meet all of their goals.

In this role, you will be required to undertake the following tasks:

  • performing basic hygiene tasks
  • daily living tasks such as cooking, cleaning and doing laundry
  • transporting clients to therapy or medical appointments and/or take them shopping and completing other chores
  • helping with complex life chores such as application forms
  • co-ordinating with family and friends for social occasions
  • helping clients to enjoy activities, such as art, music or outings
  • helping clients to engage with community services
  • assisting in building client self-image and self-confidence, usually at the direction of a therapist
  • cleaning rooms, and/or providing assistance to help clients clean their rooms
  • medication administration (only with appropriate training and only when a medication plan is in place under the recognition of an appropriate health professional)
  • behaviour observation and support at the behest of a therapist or specialist
  • come into work with 1 hours’ notice
  • work flexible hours – day and night shifts

While we value experience, we understand that it comes in many forms: classroom learning, on the job, life experience or caring for a friend or relative with a disability are all valid.

Our Support Workers are expected to conform to the NDIS Code of Conduct at all times.

You’ll need to be a compassionate and detail-oriented person who possesses strong listening and oral communication skills. Patience, a passion for helping people and being a consummate team player are also essential.

Teamwork is necessary but you will need the ability to work independently with clients to assist them to achieve their goals. You should also be in good physical condition as the job may involve lifting clients, such as assisting them into vehicles, or helping them in and out of showers.

To be successful in this role you need to possess the following:

Essential skills & competencies:

  • Clear and effective communication skills
  • Ability to establish rapport with a wide variety of people
  • Ability to work as a team
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Basic IT literacy and skills
  • Self-motivation and the ability to identify and complete needed tasks without direct supervision
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in record management and maintenance

Experience & Qualifications:

Minimum 1 years’ experience with people with disability is necessary. Applicants must have completed the free NDIS-mandated module “Quality, Safety and You”. This can be found on the NDIS website.

Certificate level qualifications, such as Disability Services or Community Services, are well regarded, and Aged Care qualifications are also a good indicator of skills.

To commence work, all Support Workers will need the following:

  • Police Clearance
  • Working With Children Check (WWCC)

We are determined to employ dedicated and caring people!

If you meet the above criteria and you’re interested in contributing to an organisation that values the highest level of quality in everything it sets out to achieve, we want to hear from you!

Our process will include questions on your attitude and personality, and we are sure you understand that we only want the best for our clients.
